Hire A Hero is delighted to have been invited to a very informative and motivational lecture to be given by one of Britain’s most senior commanders – General Sir Nick Parker KCB CBE AdC Gen.
General Sir Nick Parker has vast experience across a number of different areas and during his lecture at the University of Salford will reflect on his role as Standing Joint Commander for Operation OLYMPICS.
As a former British Army officer who served as Commander Land Forces until December last year, General Sir Nick Parker has served in Northern Ireland as General Officer Commanding, a role in which he was responsible for the overseeing of the withdrawal of troops from the streets of Northern Ireland, an action taken for the first time in 30 years. He also served as deputy commanding general of Multi-National Force-Iraq as well as serving in Sierra Leone and Afghanistan. Alongside his vast military experience General Sir Nick Parker has worked in staff roles including Governor of Edinburgh Castle, Commandant of the Joint Service Command and Staff College and Commander of Regional Forces, a role which gave him the duties of inspector-general of the Territorial Army.
As part of the Salford Lecture Series, General Sir Nick Parker’s lecture will reflect on his role as Standing Commander for Operation OLYMPICS, using the Olympics Games 2012 as an example to explore issues around the difficulty of high level strategic decision making and making them work when moved into a crisis situation, where multi-agencies are involved.
Following on from this, Professor Gary LaFree, Director for the National Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Response to Terrorism (START), will carry on the lecture with the promise to help us better understand some of the most significant issues facing society today.
A question and answer section will be included in the lecture allowing you to air your views or to find out more about this topical subject.
The lecture will take place on Thursday 25 April 2013 in the Chapman Building, Peel Park Campus, University of Salford, commencing at 18.00.
HAH encourages supporters to attend this event and hear the words of an experienced military figure. This event is free as part of the public series of lectures and is open to anyone who wishes to attend.
