SCREEN & STAGE LEGEND BRIAN CONLEY PLEDGES SUPPORT TO HIRE A HERO

Recognised as one of the UK’s most popular performers on both stage and screen Brian Conley is a household name thanks to over 30 years in showbiz.

Hire a Hero is therefore honoured Brian Conley, regarded as one of the UK’s most versatile performers, is to become a Patron of the military charity.

Hire a Hero supports service leavers through the transition into civilian life. Essential to the charity’s work is the individualised support provided, allowing ex-military personnel to make better-informed choices. Hire a Hero is proud to have its work supported by Brian Conley.

Brian Conley has hit the very heights of the entertainment business, being granted the honour of presenting the last Royal Variety Performance of the 20th Century and hosting his very own ‘An Audience With . . . . ‘, a mark of Conley’s work and esteem within showbiz.

The announcement that Brian Conley is to become a patron of Hire a Hero comes as the entertainer, made famous by starring roles in ‘Jolson’, ‘Hairspray’, ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’, ‘Oliver!’, and of course ‘The Brian Conley Show’ begins a nationwide tour in Cameron Mackintosh’s ‘Barnum’.

“Like most I am very supportive of our armed forces community and for some time have been seeking the opportunity to actively do so,” Brain says proudly.

“I am therefore extremely proud that Gerry Hill [Hire a Hero CEO] has extended the invitation to join the charity as a Patron.”

Brian, described as a “consumate showman” in his latest role of P. T. Barnum, joins the cast of Mackintosh’s newly adapted show following a 25 date tour of his own one man show.

Upon the announcement Hire a Hero Chief Executive Officer Major [Retd.] Gerry Hill MBE QGM + Bar looked forward to having Brian Conley on-board.

“Hire a Hero is delighted to welcome someone as recognisable and respected within the entertainment industry like Brian as Patron.

“I and our small team hope that Brian will bring his own brand of showmanship and showbiz to everything that he does for Hire a Hero.”

Brian’s first work as patron is indeed of showbusiness proportions. The star of ‘Barnum’ is calling on supporters of the charity and attendees at Hire a Hero’s golf day on Friday (26th September) to join him back stage at a performance of your choosing.

To be in with a chance of winning this unique opportunity Brian asks that prizes for auction be offered in exchange – all proceeds going to Hire a Hero.

“It can be anything,” explained Brian. “Maybe someone is happy to offer their services to mow someone’s lawn? Or perhaps you have a holiday home you could donate for a short break, or even a second-hand Aston Martin you’re desperate to get rid of!?

“Anything that somebody can offer to support a worthwhile cause that I am newly Patron of would be fantastic.

Hire a Hero’s golf day will take place at Stoke Park Country Club, Spa and Hotel, Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire – Brian’s hometown – on 26th September.

ICONIC: Stoke Park’s mansion

In three weeks Hire a Hero returns to the iconic Stoke Park Country Club, Spa and Hotel for its second golf day.

The 27 hole championship course will once again play host to the charity on 5th September as Hire a Hero seeks to build on the success of its inaugural May event.

The scene for some of the most iconic scenes in world cinema Stoke Park was one of the very first country clubs of its type, and remains one of the most exclusive.

As part of the day guests and supporters of the charity will play 18 holes of the Harry Colt course, architect of Open Championship settings Muirfield, Scotland, and Royal Portrush, Northern Ireland.

Considered one of the “Top 100 Courses of the World”, the inspiration for Augusta National’s ‘Amen’ 16th, for some the opportunity to play Stoke Park is seen as a once in a life time opportunity.

As a prelude to the golf guests will be welcomed to the mansion upon registration by a buffet brunch, before wits are pitted against the 104 year old course.

The Presidents bar shall then welcome visitants before the evening’s dinner.

The mansion’s Fountain Room shall then host the charity’s friends and supporters, a three course meal, auction and raffle making up the evening’s proceedings before carriages are met.

Opportunities are available to support Hire a Hero at Stoke Park, whether through entering a team, joining the charity for dinner or the offer of raffle or auction prizes.

FITTING VENUE: Stoke Park Golf & Country Club  played host to Hire a Hero and our guests

Last Friday saw the inaugural Hire a Hero golf day take place at Stoke Park Golf & Country club in Buckinghamshire, and what a success.

Tucked away in the leafy suburb of Stoke Poges, the 300 acre estate of Stoke Park was a fitting setting as eleven teams pitted their wits against the award winning course.

Before the forty-four players took to the course in the stable ford matchplay format they were treated to astonishing entertainment in the form of Geoff Swain’s ‘Golf Unplugged’ show.

The show saw Geoff, rated as the number one in the world for trick shots and innovation with a golf club, go through his broad rapporteur of shots and impressions, before getting those unfortunate enough to play off a single digit handicap involved.

Swain’s show, which takes him across the globe, the inspiration for much of his act, was met with rapturous applause, laughter and appreciation and acted as the perfect precursor to the tournament that followed.

Those lucky enough to take to the Lane Jackson and Colt courses were blessed with spectacular scenery, to go with the stunning weather that had greeted us throughout the morning.

The going was tough for many around the challenging course, two holes of which were inspired by the legendary Augusta National Course, but all rose to the task.

After deservedly freshening up competitors made their way to the dining room where they were treated to a spectacular three course meal, deserving of the three AA Rosettes that the venue holds.

Between courses, presentations, the auction and raffle took place and thanks must go to all of those who donated prizes and were so generous in their bidding.

A fantastic day was had by all on what was the charities first major event of this kind, the team of Arthur Hindmarch, Craig Baldwin and Malcolm Williams crowned Hire a Hero’s first ever champions.

A special thanks too must go to the staff and all those at Stoke Park who made the day possible, an astonishing venue.

It is the hope of all at Hire a Hero to build on the success of the day, the first of what is hoped will be many fundraising events of this kind, if you or your company are interested and would like to take part in upcoming events please email us info@hireaherouk.org.
