Gerry Hill MBE QGM + Bar spent just short of 45 years in the British Army, the last 34 of which were served in 22 Special Air Service Regiment. During this time he saw service in Northern Ireland, the Falkland Islands, the Balkans, across the Middle East and Afghanistan.

While serving, Gerry received four gallantry awards – two Queen’s Gallantry Medals (QGM) and two Mention in Dispatches (MID) as well as a Member of the British Empire medal (MBE) and a Commander in Chief Commendation (CINC) for valuable service.

The knowledge and experience Gerry gained during this time and in particular, in the latter years of his service have enabled him to recognise the value of appropriate welfare support for the men and women of our Armed Forces and the problems they encounter on leaving the services.

Following his retirement in February 2012, Gerry became fully involved with the aspiring charity – Hire a Hero. Through his involvement, charitable status was soon subsequently granted – the first step in a long but vital process.

Gerry has been married to Marie for 30 years and they have two grown-up children. Living in Herefordshire Gerry is a keen walker, field sportsman and now watches, rather than plays, rugby football!
