Leigh began a military career in the Royal Air Force aged 18 and served in many theatres of operation for 15 years. Leigh joined the junior ranks as an Airman in 1980 and left the service as a senior officer in the mid-nineties to follow a business career.

Leigh studied Avionic Engineering at Royal Air Force colleges and to this day is a pilot of a fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. Following his military career, Leigh pursued his passion for Engineering and Technology and has worked at senior levels in companies such as Sprint, NTL, 3, British Telecommunications and Astra Zeneca. Leigh has a great deal of experience at leading very large, complex organisations with global operations.

During his career at BT he was fortunate enough to plan, design, build and run the communications technology for the sporting venues of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games, a real parallel to previous military education and training.

“I am delighted and passionate about being an Ambassador for Hire a Hero. Leaving the service was very difficult for me and I had to try many different methods in finding the right role for me and my family’s future. I had to learn new communications skills to get exactly the right job for my chosen career path. I want to help service leavers avoid the challenges that I faced”
